ATP World Finals
A climactic final between Russia’s Nikolay Davydenko and Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro brought the 2009 men’s professional tennis season to stunning conclusion in November at The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals held this year at London’s O2 Arena.
Featuring only the world’s top eight scoring singles players and doubles teams, the World Tour Finals showcases the best players, giving them their final point scoring opportunity in the official ATP rankings. This year saw Davydenko crowned World Tour Finals Champion following his straight sets victory in the tournament final, with Roger Federer topping the South African Airways 2009 ATP Rankings during the Tournament.
Creative Technology provided a vast amount of audiovisual equipment for this event to make it a true visual spectacular. Working directly for the ATP and through Ignite, all the video display elements for the show presentation, the courtside perimeter advertising boards and over 100 plasma screens around the arena were just some of the visual display equipment Creative Technology provided.
CT supplied 98m2 of Mitsubishi OD10, in addition to 64m2 of Lighthouse R7 LED screens. A further 92 linear metres of OLite 612 LED screen were also provided for the courtside perimeter advertising boards and four Panasonic 10K projector were used for the court surface projection.
The spectators weren’t the only beneficiaries
of Creative Technology’s visual display facilities. In the media centre, 27m2 of Barco ILite6 ensured easy and clear press coverage, with Spyder Control Systems/switchers used to provide simultaneous trigger media to create co-ordinated event video moments.
Steve Purkess, CT’s Project Manager was delighted with how all the visual elements worked in harmony with each other. “The entire Arena looked stunning and gave the spectators a true visual experience, allowing all visitors to the Finals to see close ups and replays of tennis professionals and the shots they played as they happened.”
Purkess was also pleased with the media centre set up. “The ILite6 was used to maximum effect providing clear and concise content that the press have come to expect from Creative Technology’s equipment inventory.”
The tournament has been contested in major cities around the world with a history dating back to the birth of The Masters in Tokyo in 1970. This year saw the tournament reborn as the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals and will be held at the O2 Arena until 2013.
